Members of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus met Aug. 9 to to kick off the second cohort of the EV Readiness Program, ComEd’s $231 million investment in Beneficial Electrification programs designed to accelerate the adoption of electrified technologies.

The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus (Caucus) has applied for the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant, designated for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Submitted on behalf of 37 communities across the greater Chicago area, the grant is part of the 2021 Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Law, which allocated $7.5 billion toward EV charging stations and alternative fueling projects nationwide over the next five years. If awarded, the Caucus would receive $15 million on behalf of member municipalities in the greater Chicago region.

The North American Charging Standard (NACS, formerly called the Tesla Supercharger is making strides to become the new standard for Electric Vehicle connections for charging. Tesla has used the NACS since 2012. The NACS connectors allow for Level 2 AC charging up to 48 Amps (11.5 kilowatts) and DC Fast Charging up to 250 kW.

Milburn peaks at 2nd Annual Conference on EV Charging Infrastructure Midwest. New laws and grant programs in the Midwest are driving momentum for the deployment of a coordinated and efficient charging infrastructure while addressing equity and resilience issues. A recent collaboration among Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana to electrify a 1,100-mile shoreline along Lake Michigan with EV charging stations is a clear indicator of the Midwest’s commitment to promoting EV adoption and building the related infrastructure. To facilitate these trends, Global Transmission Report announces the 2nd Annual Conference on EV Charging Infrastructure Midwest on May 24-25, 2023 at Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. This conference will highlight programs, opportunities, technologies and solutions to build a resilient and efficient charging infrastructure in the Midwest.

As part of President Biden’s goal of having 50 percent of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030, the White House is announcing the first set of public and private commitments to support America’s historic transition to electric vehicles (EV) under the EV Acceleration Challenge. These commitments are part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to spur domestic manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, boost U.S. competitiveness and create good-paying jobs.
